For many years, 3rd and 4th generations of mobile networks have allowed users to receive service anywhere, at any time. The dawning and visionary 5th generation of mobile network (5G) aims to create a highly-decentralised architecture, including a massive Internet of Things (mIoT) and a non-federated core network, making telecommunications ubiquitous. The concrete implications for the networks are the virtualisation and softwarisation of its core, and the variety of devices requesting access. This revolution comes with important security challenges that cannot be answered by existing 3G/4G solutions: (i) challenge 1: security of mobile core network, (ii) challenge 2: security of network access control, (iii) challenge 3: security and privacy of end-user communications. MobiS5 aims to provide a security toolbox for 5G networks, validated formally and experimentally, responding to these challenges. To this end, we will use the combined three approaches of provable security, secure implementations, and experimental validation.
